Empowering the Next Generation: Rewriting the Literacy Story in Western Ghana

The Reading Ghana program is a dedicated initiative focused on transforming the educational landscape for primary-level learners across the Western Region. By prioritizing teacher effectiveness and the distribution of high-quality, engaging books, we are working to significantly enhance literacy outcomes in reading and writing. Our mission is built on the belief that every child deserves the tools to succeed, and through our major interventions, we are turning that vision into a reality for thousands of students.

Through strategic collaboration with the Ghana Education Service, CODE Canada, and the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, our impact is felt deeply within 37 schools across two districts. We have successfully distributed over 34,000 age-appropriate and culturally relevant supplementary readers and supplied essential Teaching and Learning Resources to Basic 1-6 classrooms. Beyond materials, we are building capacity by providing regular mentoring and coaching for teachers and headteachers, ensuring the implementation of gender-responsive and inclusive pedagogies.

We believe that sustainable change starts with the community. By establishing reading clubs and strengthening community engagement in all 37 host communities, we are fostering a lifelong culture of reading. This holistic approach—combining stakeholder collaboration with grassroots action—ensures that our literacy pedagogies create a lasting legacy. Join us as the Olinga Foundation for Human Development continues to empower young minds and rewrite the story for global literacy.
